HOW held Debate between Candidates for elections of IUG Council

Carrying out its efforts to be a platform for youth and their issues, House of Wisdom Institute held a student debate between the candidates for election of the Islamic University Students Council on Tuesday 15/3/2016.

The meeting’s agenda focused on the vision of each frame concerning the development of student work at the university, and of their perspective toward the issues of increasing the fees, and the system of proportional representation in the university.

The candidates agreed with the need of develop the students’ work at the Islamic University of Gaza and the necessity of preventing increasing the students’ fees. However, their perspectives about the system of proportional representation in the university are different. Regarding Abu Tayeb, he sees that the Islamic University refuses the proportional representation system because, as what he said, its polices follow Hamas. While Azzam believes that the political division prevents proportional representation within the university and the elections are more democratic. For his part, Gendia sees that the Islamic bloc is the first to call for proportional representation and has sent an initiative to all secretaries’ student frameworks in the sector, however, this initiative did not accepted.

In the same context, the audience shared their interventions and questions to the candidates. Moreover, the debate was on the back of the elections which was currently held at the Islamic University.
This meeting comes within a series of meetings held by the House of Wisdom Institute to achieve its role toward the youth issues in the Palestinian community in a way to serve the Palestinian cause.
