On Jan. 2, 2020, The Palestinian youth incubator of HOW Institute organized a meeting on the political system in Israel, presented by A. Abd Al-Rahman Shihab.

He started talking about the beginning of the establishment of Israel and the conferences that preceded that. Moreover, he pointed out that it is not a democratic country nor Eastern, but rather a mixture of this and that.

Shehab went on to talk about Israel’s transformation to extremism in the last decade, as it is not taught as a special case, but rather must be applied to the standards of other countries because it is part of the European society. Yet, there is disagreement about its nationalism.

Furthermore, he touched on issues that must be studied to understand the Israeli society, including democratic and Jewish contradictions; that the basis of citizenship is religious or ethnic, agricultural settlement, the issue of the army and its relationship to society, and political transformations in the religious society.

In addition, he stressed that Israel cannot separate religion from the state, as religion will remain the guide and inspiration for them.

The meeting ended with questions and discussions from the trainees.
