HOW and Waqf Ministry Organizes the Second Scientific Conference “Towards a Better Relationship with the West”

On Dec. 2nd, The House of Wisdom Institute for Consultancy and Conflict Resolution, in cooperation with the Ministry of Waqg and Religious Affairs, organized a conference entitled “Towards a better relationship with the West 2”. The conference were attended by several elites,  preachers, scholars, intellectuals, lagal judges, academics and others.

In his speech, the head of the Conference, Dr. Abdulhadi Al-Agha, stressed that the conference aimed at working on differentiating between the political positions of western governments and their peoples, and that Islam has come with lofty goals and noble purposes.

For his part, Eng. Mahmoud Al-Madhoun, Secretary General of HOW Institute, pointed out that the second conference was the result of a joint want of the ministry and the institute, noting that the conference aimed to achieve the message of commitment to the Institute of HOW.

Conference sessions

The first session of the conference was headed by Dr. Abdullah Abu Alian, who introduced the speakers.

General Mohamed Lafi, head of the Political and Moral Guidance Commission, spoke about “ The role of  some local Western institutions in creating negative image about Islam.”  Dr. Tayseer Ibrahim, Dean of the Faculty of Sharia and Law at the Islamic University, spoke about “ Extremism and Fundamentalism: Islamic or Global Threat?”

On the other hand, Dr. Yusuf Farhat, director general of the unit, delivered a speech entitled: “ Towards an Islamic discourse contributes to improve the relation with the West.” In a recording video, Dr. Musa Abu Marzouk spoke about “ Israel and the Demonization of Palestinian Resistance in the West: Motives and Dimensions

.”

 

At the second session of the conference headed by Dr. Shukri Al-Taweel, Dr. Ahmed Yousef, Chairman of the Board of Directors of The House of Wisdom Institute, spoke on “ Islamists and the West: Towards an Intellectual Understanding of Religion, Politics and Human Relations”, while Mr. Oliver McTernen’s paper, delivered by Mr. Jordan Morgan, Director of the Middle East Relations Program for Forward Thinking Institute,  addressed “ Transnational Terrorism: Religion, Politics and Security Precautions.” Dr. François Burga spoke on “ Political Islam: Stabilizing or Igniting Tool for Conflict with the West?”

The researchers came out with a set of recommendations, here are some of them:

·       To affirm that Islam is a religion of mercy, love, tolerance and preaching of wisdom and good advice

·       To improve the advocacy discourse and improve its form and content when addressing others

·       To re-read the experiences of Muslims in the world, especially in developed countries,  in order to benefit from them when talking about the West or with them.

·       The Islamic discourse must take into account when addressing the West that all people are brothers, they must know each other, then cooperate, for the sake of man and his interest.

 

 

The conference was concluded with the attendees’ interventions, honoring the guests, conference committees and researchers participating in the conference.

 

It is noteworthy that the House of Wisdom Institute organized on June 27th, 2019 the first conference, entitled: “Towards a Better Understanding of the Relationship with the West.”
