On November 28, The Palestinian Youth Incubator of the House of Wisdom Institute held a training meeting on “the ICRC and International Humanitarian Law”.

Ms. Suhair Zakout, the spokesperson of the Red Cross, and Ms. Amani AlNaouq, the Media Spokesperson, held the meeting and delivered their speeches.

For his part, Mr. Mohammed Yassin, The head of the Executive Board of the Incubator, pointed out that the meeting was a special addition to the trainees in the series of meetings and training workshops.

In addition, the training team explained the nature of the committee’s work and the responsibilities assigned to it in the Palestinian territories, through its humanitarian tasks and coordination in wars and crises.

Mr. Ibrahim al-Hajj Ahmed, the deputy head of the Incubator’s Executive Council, said the meeting was fruitful and effective for it provided us with information about the Red Cross and its origins and the scope of its work in Palestine. In addition, he visited prisoners in the prisons of the occupation, which is the link between the detainees and their families.

He added that they mentioned the ICRC  four humanitarian principles: humanitarianism, neutrality, impartiality and independence.

Al-Hajj continued by saying that the trainer told them about the Battle of Solferinwa that took place in Italy in 1859. After this battle, the Swiss businessman Henry Donald came up with the idea of establishing independent relief societies in each country to help the victims of war. Then international law arose .

Ms. Kholoud Syam explained that the Red Cross is an international institution that helps reduce the impact of armed conflicts and mitigate the human and material losses they cause.

They provided humanitarian services despite the risks they faced, she added. In addition, the audience learned about the four Geneva Conventions and the accompanying protocols, and the extent to which the media played a role in highlighting the consequences of wars and crises.
