25th January 2016, HOW organized a workshop entitled “Monitoring and overseeing the Human Rights situation in places of Detaining Centers” under the patronage of the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and DCAF center for security, development and rule of law.
Dr. Ahmed Youssef, the president of the House of Wisdom – HOW, talked about the role of HOW in developing the security sector and the capacities of its members, and he confirmed that HOW will continue to organize training courses to improve the capabilities of the members working in the security sector basing on the international standards of human rights.
On another side, Dr. Ghazi Hamad, the deputy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that they concern to implement projects in cooperation with international organizations, in order to exchange experience and learn lessons from the outside world, and enhance the principles of human rights and the rule of law.
Dr. Jeanpierre Restellini, the former commissioner general of Switzerland and a member of the European Union for preventing torture and inhuman treatment, presented the international standards and ways of implementing more control on the persons in charge in the detaining centers.
The participants discussed the situation of human rights in the places of detaining centers in the Gaza Strip and explained the critical needs for developing and expanding the detaining centers to be matching the international standards, in addition to the achievements and challenges faced in their work.
