Announcing the Criminal Justice Conference in Palestine

The House of Wisdom Institute for Conflict Resolution and Governance and the High Palestinian Judiciary Institute, in cooperation with the different criminal justice institutions are announcing the criminal justice conference in Palestine, entitled “Promoting the Criminal justice System for crime and torture prevention in Palestine”.

The conference seeks expanded coordination among the different criminal justice facilities. As well as, it aims to enhance the efficiency of the justice institutions within the principles of rule of law, torture prevention and human rights respect. In addition to studying the causes of crime increase, best practices for prevention and enhancing the role of NGOs and community to monitor the criminal justice institutions effectively.

Conference Topics:

First: The modern criminal policies and their impact on the criminal justice system

1. The comprehensive national plans to coordinate among the criminal justice system institutions
2. Alternatives of penalties of deprivation of liberty in the legislations applying in Palestine
3. The international conventions of a criminal nature and their impact on the criminal justice system in Palestine

Second: The effective national measures for crime prevention

1. The legislative countering of cyber-crimes
2. Economic and financial crimes and means of prevention
3. Role of the civil society and the private sector in crime prevention

Third: The Palestinian criminal justice system in the light of international standards of torture prevention

1. Penalty law applying in the Gaza Strip in the light of international standards of torture prevention
2. Monitoring the detention centers in the light of the Palestinian law and the international conventions
3. Role of the Palestinian criminal procedures law in torture prevention

The conference gives an opportunity for researchers from universities and associations related to criminal justice system to submit their papers to be discussed in the conference basing on the conditions below:

2. Saturday, 12 November 2016, deadline for submitting summary of papers
3. Thursday, 17 November 2016, deadline for informing of acceptance of researches’ summary
4. Sunday, 15 January 2017, deadline for informing of accepting papers to be discussed
5. The conference day will be announced on the beginning of February
