in coordination with Al-Mezan Centre for Human Rights and sponsored by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

This course, aiming at empowering and raising the awareness of young people,  was dedicated to all members of the Youth Advocacy Team “PYAN”, which is part of the activities implemented by House of Wisdom.

The first session of this workshop was given by Ms. Shirin Mohammed AL-Shobaki, a trainer at Al-Mezan Centre, who discussed generally some significant concepts related to human rights and tackled some of these rights in details.

The first part of the second session “Tolerance and Pluralism” was led by Mr. Salah Abd El-Atti, a member in the Independent Commission for Human Rights (ICHR), who tackled the two concepts vividly illustrated with examples.  While the second part was given by Mr. Zaher Al-Saqqa, a jurist and a university teacher, who discussed the mechanisms of international protections of human rights at global and regional levels.

The last session on Democracy was given by Dr. Naser Abu Al-Ata, a university teacher, who amply talked about democracy and what makes any society democratic by displaying various examples of those countries who apply democracy and those who claim they do. This session is concluded by Mr. Salah Abd El-Atti, who detailed the concept of the “Supremacy of the law”.

The closing of the course was done by Eng. Mahmoud El-Madhoon, a member of the board of Trustees, Issam Younis, General Director of Al-Mezan Centre For Human Rights and Omar Feri, the head of the Media Office in ICRC, by congratulating the participants for successfully completing the course and thanking Al-Mezan Center for their tremendous effort and ICRC for their generously supportive role. It’s also worthy to mention that Mr. Oliver McTernan, co-founder and director of Forward Thinking, paid a visit to the whole group and talked to them about the global and the regional impact of a changing society.
