The Palestinian Youth Incubator at House of Wisdom Institute organized a dialogue session on the emergence and development of the Islamic Jihad movement and its position in the Palestinian arena.

The incubator hosted Sheikh Nafez Azzam, a member of the political bureau of the movement, in the presence of 35 youth from different factions..

Dr. Ahmed Yousef, Head of HOW Institute, started his speech by thanking the youth in the Executive Council of the incubator for their efforts in organizing this qualitative open meeting, citing the strong social and political relations with the guest to express the good struggle and brotherhood between different factions for decades.

Mohammed Yassin, The head of the Executive Council of the Incubator, pointed out that this meeting was the first, yet not the last, between the leaders of the factions and members of the youth incubator, in order to bring the views closer and build a bridge of understanding between youth and different factions to promote peaceful, community and political work in The near future.

In his speech, Sheikh Nafez Azzam said that the Former Palestinian faztions were not based on an Islamic reference, stressing shakaki’s statement: “There must be a new framework that represents a momentum for Islamic action and a renewal of the Islamic movement”.

he mentioned the first idea of the movement’s emergence was from there, as they felt that the Islamic idea should not be absent from the Palestinian position.

He added that in the second half of the 1970s, the Islamic Jihad was established in an attempt to provide a clear Islamic vision of the methodology of conflict and an understanding of the Islamic history. He explained that there was no contradiction between patriotism and Islam, and there was no supporting and sponsoring of the movement at the time.

He also talked about the life of Dr. Fathi Shakaki, who first put forward this Islamic vision, where the slogans were based not only on passion but also on a conscious analysis of what is known as the Israeli phenomenon.

He continued to talk extensively about the movement’s achievements and the periods of safety that settlers had experienced many times before the real advancement of resistance work. Jihad played a greater role in moving the population and the so-called intifada. It has had many positions to get rid it of intolerance and to build bridges between factions.

Regarding the Palestinian elections, Sheikh Azzam believes that Hamas’ approval of the elections, its keenness and firm stance in it gave greater chance for its success and continuity. Regarding the position of the Jihad movement towards it, it is part of Oslo, so they see that there are no guarantees of results.  it may lead to further dismantling of the situation, in addition to the existence of many files more important than the elections that must be resolved before any elections started. Therefore, the movement rejects elections; however,  it accepts it in case of having elections for the  national assembly.

In mentioning Iran, Azzam said shakaki had the idea of the Iranian revolution, which was an inspiration, stressing that Iran was the primary supporter of the resistance in the Gaza Strip and that it did not ask the Jihad movement for any interests or positions in exchange for support.

At the end of the session, the floor was open for questions and discussions between the members of the incubator and the guest, who praised the youth elites for their political  awareness and national concern.
