House of Wisdom Institute organizes a seminar in the context of reviews
On 19th March, 2019, House of Wisdom institute for consultation and conflict resolution organized a seminar entitled:” Great Return March one year late: youth and media perspective”, at the Belmond restaurant.
The seminar witnessed the participation of Dr. Ahmed Yousef, Mr. Oliver McTernan, Dr. Essam Hamad, Dr. Adnan Amer and others as well as some writers, political figures, academics and Youth.
Dr. Ahmed Yousef talked about the demonstration quoting the perspectives of some Arab figures living in the West. Dr. Ahmed mentioned that the reason behind the weakness of the March returned back to the unclarity of the March’s goals and the argument over the name of it.
Mr. Oliver mentioned the period in which the protests attracted the most attention in the UK and US media and it was between 30th March- mid May. He shed the light on the Iranin media who was covering most of the events with a focus on the numbers wounded and killed and stressing the role of women.He concluded his speech by saying that reports get empathetic when they see killings and they write about that, but if they see burning kites, that won’t feed their mentality and they will be no longer empathetic.
Dr. Essam Hammad and Dr. Adnan Abu Amer amost almost share the same perspectives. Dr. Essam mentioned that The March after one year achieved some of their goalsl; meanwhile, there were many weak points and some failure. He stressed on the necessity of working more and improving the good points of this demonstration and avoiding the points that might lead to more failure.
Dr. Adnan shed the light on the popular tools used 30 years ago by the Palestinians and again in the demonstration which was a shock to Israel. There were some Israeli’s arguments over the capability of Palestinians to face the occupation and protest against them.
At last, the seminar was concluded with some discussions from the attendees. Some of them mentioned the necessity of reforming the body and committees of the great Return March especially the legislative committee in order to do its role by delivering their complaints to the international criminal court. They also added that it is important to think of new innovative ideas to use in the fields of demonstration.
