Training Meeting: Dealing with the Palestinian Cause through Western Media Strategies
In the midst of Western media hegemony and its colossal impact on the various dimensions of the Palestinian cause, the Palestinian Youth Incubator affiliated to the House of Wisdom Institute decided to give their members the opportunity to acquaint themselves with this aspect in order to empower them politically.
On Aug. 22nd, the incubator held its third meeting, entitled: “Western media’s coverage of the Palestinian cause,” at the Palestinian Banking Institute.
Mr. Ahmed Dalloul, project supervisor, pointed out that the aim of this meeting was to enhance trainees’ abilities in understanding the mechanisms of the Western media and its stance towards the Palestinian cause.
Dr. Mosheer Amer, head of the English Department at the Islamic University, talked about the United States as they grab attention from all international media through its big and so rich companies.
He also shed light on the Palestinian media and its means, in general, describing it as factional party media.
On the other hand, he talked about the biased media listing steps that must be followed to respond to the Israeli and European media in favor of the Palestinian cause, by using one strategy agreed by all people and factions aiming at showing the ugliness of occupation. In addition, this strategy might pit the public opinion against Zionism and Americanism’s policies.
In the same context, he stressed the necessity of avoiding the use of terms that give the occupation justifications to undermine the rights of the Palestinians, such as the “Zionist Holocaust”. He said that it’s better to have various experience from different factions working together in the media to face the Israeli media.
Moreover, he talked on different topics that participants are interested in, such as the media map, the Zionist propaganda, the media coverage of return marches and the Zionist role in the process of targeting the Palestinians.
Lastly, Mr. Mohamed Jarbou, head of the executive committee of the incubator, thanked all participants and expressed his admiration for Dr. Mosher Amer for the worthy experience he had in this field.
It is worth mentioning that the meeting was fruitful and full of interaction and important discussions on the role of youth in benefitting from western media strategies to practically, through media, use them for the benefit of the Palestinian cause.
