14-12-2014, The House of Wisdom Institute HOW organized an open discussion entitled “Horizons of Peace in the light of obstructed negotiations”,
the guest speakers were Mr. Oliver Mcternan and Edward Channer from the British Center Forward Thinking, while the attendants were intellectuals and political leaders representing all Palestinian factions.
Dr. Ahmed Yousef began the session by welcoming the guests and attendants, then Mr. Oliver spoke on his thoughts towards next year 2015, he said that 2015 will be important for any political settlement to the Palestinian cause and linked this with the change in the Israeli parties’ viewpoints towards the Palestinians.
After that, the attendants gave their comment on what Mr. Oliver spoke, Dr. Basem Na’im said that unfortunately the world is legitimizing the siege on Gaza and this is a source of pessimism for 2015. Dr. Abdalla Al-Efranji said that he doesn’t think there will be any settlement in 2015 because of the control of the extreme right wing on the Israeli government. While Eng. Emad Al-Falouji said that he agrees with Mr. Oliver because it is a time that Hamas and Fateh – the biggest Palestinian parties – are agreed on political settlement based on international resolutions.
Mr. Oliver concluded his speech by saying no matter how Palestinians are pessimistic it is justifiable because of what they face on the ground and still the US administration is reflecting the Israeli policies only.
